Marcel
Douchamp nasce il 28 luglio del 1887 a Blainville in Normandia,
in una famiglia tutto sommato agiata, con un nonno pittore e un padre
che asseconda le tendenze artistiche dei figli, sostenendoli anche
economicamente. I fratelli di Marcel sono anch'essi pittori (Jacques
Villon e Duchamp-Villon), li raggiungerà a Parigi all'età
di diciassette anni.
Duchamp è del segno del Leone, con un Ascendente in Scorpione
e la Luna nello stesso segno; se guardiamo dall'alto la sua figura
di artista, non possiamo che attribuire al segno ascendente tutta
la carica di ironia e rottura nei confronti dell'arte del suo tempo,
la contestazione e la creazione di un linguaggio totalmente nuovo,
e per certi versi anche poco comprensibile. Inizia a dipingere a quindici
anni, sulla scorta di un ambiente famigliare che incoraggia la cultura
nei suoi vari aspetti, anche se la sua parabola di pittore non durerà
più di una decina d'anni. Il suo stile è influenzato
dai fauves e dai simbolisti, ma successivamente sarà più
interessato alle istanze futuriste, nella loro volontà di rottura
e nel mito della macchina e della velocità, e alle tematiche
dadaiste.
Con il Sole nella nona casa la sua visione d'insieme è indubbiamente
molto distaccata, per effetto della nota regalità leonina la
sua osservazione avviene da un punto di vista privilegiato, con la
possibilità di cogliere la realtà in modo assoluto ed
uniforme; il sestile con Nettuno e Plutone lo rendono istrione e quasi
sfuggente a ogni tipo di etichetta. Il suo quadro più famoso,
Nudo che scende le scale (1912), non viene infatti compreso e anzi
rifiutato al Salon des Independants, definito troppo futurista a causa
del movimento che così sapientemente riesce a rappresentare.
Da buon Scorpione (Luna e Ascendente) la prende abbastanza male, decidendo
di continuare da solo.
Plutone
e Nettuno insieme al segno dello Scorpione stimolano in lui associazioni
di idee e parole; affascinato dagli scritti di Roussel, annota degli
appunti nei quali descrive progetti di opere, in sequenze verbali
difficili da seguire, giochi di parole e immagini quasi oniriche fanno
scaturire un mondo immaginativo molto profondo (Plutone) e cangiante
(Nettuno). L'espressività artistica che traspare dal suo tema
non è infatti di quelle tipiche: indubbiamente il sestile tra
Luna e Venere è molto fecondo, ma i segni coinvolti, Scorpione
e Vergine, suggeriscono una dimensione più cerebrale e materiale
che prettamente visiva e colorata. Manipolazione e manualità
sono le due caratteristiche principali della svolta artistica di Marcel
Duchamp, che abbandonato il pennello, comincia a produrre i ready-made
(oggetti già fatti o assemblati per l'occasione) e installazioni,
tutto a rappresentazione di un idea, un concetto.
La Luna congiunta all'Ascendente lo rende molto sensibile alla realtà
che lo circonda, capace di recepire qualcosa laddove gli altri non
scorgono nulla; al tempo stesso spesso non viene compreso, perché
troppo profondo e perché si esprime secondo modalità
completamente nuove. Le sue opere sono dei simboli, tanto profondi
nel loro significato (Scorpione) quanto estremamente semplici come
elementi quotidiani (Vergine). Naturalmente un linguaggio che oggi
non ha più la carica dirompente e provocatoria di allora, ma
che a suo tempo ha posto i germi per un tipo di espressività
moderna. Altri elementi del tema che lo fanno classificare come alternativo,
e in qualche modo scardinatore di certezze artistiche, sono la quadratura
tra Marte e Urano, che posizionati tra ottava e undicesima casa lo
fanno pensare e ripensare ai progetti delle proprie opere; la quadratura
tra Saturno e Giove, fra nona e dodicesima casa, che lo rendono totalmente
indipendente da qualsiasi tipo di convenzione.
L'installazione Dati: 1.la caduta d'acqua, 2.il gas d'illuminazione
(1946-66) con la porta chiusa e l'opera vera e propria (il corpo di
donna nudo, la paglia, la candela) da vedere attraverso i due fori
nella porta stessa è un esempio tipico di cosa possa esprimere
il segno dello Scorpione: curiosità, mistero, e qualcosa da
spiare naturalmente ben nascosti!
Marcel Douchamp is born on july
28th 1887 in Blainville, Normandy, afterall in a well-off family,
his grandfather was a painter too and his father supported trends
in art of his sons, helping them also economically. Marcel brothers
are painters themselves (Jacques Villon e Duchamp-Villon), he will
reach them in Paris at the age of seventeen.
Duchamp is a Leo, with an Ascendant in Scorpio and the Moon in the
same sign; if we look from above his artist's figure, we can ascribe
to his ascendant all the charge of irony and breakdown towards the
art of his time, the contention and the creation of a totally new
language, and also incomprehensible for some aspects. He starts with
painting at the age of fifteen, in a family environment which encourages
culture in its various aspects, even if his painting course will be
no longer than ten years. His style is influenced by fauves and symbolists,
but lately he will be more involved in futurist applications, in their
will of breakdown and myth of machine and velocity, and in dadaist
themes.
His overlook is undoubtedly very distant with the Sun in the ninth
house, because of leonin majesty his observation is from a priviliged
point of view, with the possibilities to catch reality in an absoute
and even way; the sextile with Neptune and Pluto makes him a histrionic
person and almost elusive to any kind of label. His most famous painting,
Nude Going down the Stairs (1912), is not understood, rather refused
at Salon des Independants, defined too futurist, because of the movement
it is able to represent such leardenly. As a good Scorpio (Moon and
Ascendant) he get so upset, deciding to continue by himself.
Pluto and Neptune together with the sign of Scorpio stimulate him
in associations of ideas and words; fascinated by Roussel writings,
he makes notes which describes project of works in verbal sequences
hard to follow, words' games and almost onereic images originate a
very deep (Pluto) and changing (Neptune) imaginative world. Art expression
gleams through his chart is not typical: undoubtedly the sextile between
Moon and Venus is very prolific, but the involved signs, Scorpio and
Virgo, suggest a more celebral and material then strictly visual and
coloured dimension. Manipulation and handling are the main features
of Marcel Douchamp turning point, who abandoned the paintbrush, starts
to produce the ready-made (objects already made or assembled for the
occasion), and installations, all to represent a concept or an idea.
Moon conjuncted with Ascendant makes him really sensible to reality
that surrounds him, able to receive something where the others do
not perceive anything; at the same time what he expresse often is
not understood, because he is too deep and becuse he follows a completely
new way. His works are symbols, such deep in its significance (Scorpio)
as extremely simple as everyday life objects (Virgo). Of course it
is a language that today has not the same explosive and provocative
charge of that period, but at that time it estabilished the features
for a kind of modern expression. Other chart's elements which label
him as alternative, and some way as a breaker of artistic certanties,
are the square between Mars and Huranus, which placed between the
eighth and the eleventh house makes him always think and think again
to his works' project; square between Saturn and Jupiter, between
the ninth and the twelfth house, makes him totally free from every
kind of convention.

a closed door and the real work (a naked woman, the straw, the candle)
to see through the two holes in the door itself is a typical example
of what can express the sign of Scorpio: curiosity, mistery, and something
to spy, of course well hidden!
