Paul
Gaugin nasce a Parigi il 7 giugno 1864 sotto il segno dei Gemelli,
agisce e dipinge nella fase storica tra impressionismo ed espressionismo.
Prima di essere pittore a tempo pieno è solamente un appassionato
e collezionista di opere d'arte, comincia a dipingere, e solo successivamente
decide di dedicarsi completamente alla pittura.
L'arte ha indubbiamente un forte ascendente sulla personalità
di Gaugin, le suggestioni che riceve sono forti e numerose, l'istinto
artistico è qualcosa che quasi non riesce a dominare. Gli aspetti
di quadratura di Luna, Venere e Nettuno rappresentano una fonte inesauribile,
una fonte alla quale è però a volte difficile attingere,
proprio per la natura degli aspetti coinvolti, le suggestioni sono
tante ma scorrono in maniera diseguale. Gaugin fa storia a sé,
prosegue verso una ricerca dell'espressione di sé stesso (esigenza
tipica del Leone, segno ascendente) più che verso la ricerca
di uno stile ben preciso e delineato. Potremmo sicuramente dipingere
Gaugin come un tipo capriccioso, che unisce forti e volubili motivazioni
razionali a intuizioni profonde e infatuazioni improvvise. La sua
arte è un desiderio di comunicare attraverso l'osservazione
i suoi stati d'animo. I segni coinvolti, Vergine, Gemelli e Pesci,
creano un misto di razionalità e instintualità su pianeti
che esprimono sensibilità, ricerca di soddisfazione e gusto
artistico.
La
sua vita è costellata di una serie continua di viaggi e progetti,
o meglio di viaggi-progetto, nella campagna bretone, nelle isole centroamericane,
cominciati, suo malgrado, con il viaggio ancora infante in Perù.
Urano e Plutone nella nona casa nel segno dell'Ariete, in aspetto
di quadratura rispettivamente con Giove in Cancro e Marte in Leone,
forniscono l'impulso irrazionale, il trigono di Mercurio con Nettuno,
tra undicesima e settima, esemplifica l'esigenza spirituale. L'aspetto
poggia tra Cancro e Pesci, suggerisce a Gaugin l'esigenza in ogni
nuovo soggiorno di ambientarsi, di comunicare e lasciarsi assorbire
dalle atmosfere del luogo, per poi tradurre le sue sensazioni sulla
tela. In ogni soggiorno la sua arte si modifica, si arricchisce di
nuovi temi e cambia, soprattutto, l'accostamento dei colori
L'interesse per le arti primitive e le altre culture derivano indirettamente
dagli aspetti di Urano e Plutone su Giove; posizionato nel Cancro
in undicesima casa e in perfetta sintonia con Saturno nei Pesci, colloca
nel ritrovamento di motivi ancestrali l'esigenza della stabilità
di un ideale, di un credo, di una nuova patria. Il segno dell'Ariete
suggerisce la forza della primitività, Cancro e Pesci la tranquillità
del mondo primitivo. La vena letteraria dei Gemelli, Sole e Venere
entrambi in decima casa, lo avvicinano a scrittori e poeti; la sua
arte si carica di simboli e riferimenti alla religione, all'arte giapponese
e a quella primitiva.
Il misticismo e l'ideale si collocano perfettamente nell'interazione
dei Gemelli con l'aspetto estremamente profondo di Nettuno e Mercurio
in segni d'acqua. Quest'ultimo collocato in Cancro nell'undicesima
casa da a Gaugin un attitudine a voler esprimere sé stesso
attraverso degli ideali, delle correnti di pensiero, il fatto che
a volte la simbologia sia un po' oscura o vagamente accostata è
dovuta agli aspetti negativi di Nettuno.
Durante il soggiorno del 1891 a Tahiti Gaugin produce le tele per
le quali è maggiormente ricordato. Dopo un breve periodo di
adattamento, si appropria della cultura maori e della loro mitologia,
dipingendo soprattutto figure femminili, con uno stile formale classico
o di estrazione giapponese, indiana o egiziana.
Senza uno schema fisso rappresenta un nuovo mondo, cercando in esso
la spiritualità cui tanto ambisce.
Paul Gaugin is born in Paris
on june 7th 1864 under the sign of Gemini, he acts and paints in historic
period between impressionism and espressionism. Before being a full
time painter he is only keen on art and an art's works collector,
he starts to paint, only afterwards he decides to devote himself to
painting totally.
Art has undoubtdely a strong ascendant on Gaugin personality, suggestions
he receives are strong and large, artistic istinct is something that
almost he can not rule. Square aspects of Moon, Venus and Neptune
represent an endless source, a source which is somehow difficult to
get, just for the nature of involved aspects, suggestions are many
but flow in uneven way. Gaugin makes history himself, he goes on to
a search of his own expression (tipically Leo need, Ascendant sign)
rather than a well defined style.
We surely could describe Gaugin as a bizarre fellow, who joins strong
and fickle rational motivation together with sudden infatuation. His
art is a desire to communicate through the observation of his own
state of mind. Involved signs, Virgo, Gemini and Pisces, create a
mix of rationality and instinctiveness on planets which express sensibility,
search of satisfaction and artistic taste.
His life is studded with continous series of journeys and projects,
better to say journey-projects, in breton country, in middleamerican
islands, started when he was still a baby with the journey to Peru.
Huranus and Pluto in the ninth house in Aries square respectively
with Jupiter in Cancer and Mars in Leo, give the irrational impulse,
the trine of Mercury with Neptune, between the eleventh and the seventh,
exemplifies the spiritual need. The aspect leans between Cancer and
Pisces, suggests to Gaugin the need to settle down in every new stay,
to communicate and to be up by the atmospheres of the place, to later
translate his feeling on canvas.His art is modified in every stay,
it enriches itself of new themes and above all it changes colour's
matching.
The interest in primitive art and in other cultures rise indirectly
from aspects of Huranus and Pluto on Jupiter; placed in Cancer in
the eleventh house and in perfect tune with Saturn in Pisces, it sets
the need of steadiness of an ideal, of a creed, of a new country in
finding of ancestral motifs. Sign of Aries suggests the force of primitiveness,
Cancer and Pisces the quiet of primitive world. Literary vein of Gemini,
Sun and Venus both in the tenth house, approaches him to writers and
poets; his art is charged of symbols and referrings to religion, japanese and primitive art.
Misticism and ideal take their place in the interaction of Gemini
with the extremely deep aspect of Huranus and Neptune in water signs.
This last placed in Cancer in the eleventh house gives to Gaugin an
attitude to express himself through ideals, tendencies of thought,
the fact that sometime symbology is a bit obscure or vaguely set is
due to Neptune's negative aspects.
During the stay of 1891 in Tahiti Gaugin produces the canvas he is
better known for. After a brief period of adaptation, he appropriates
maori culture and mytology, painting above all female figures, with
a classic and formal style or japanese, indian and egyptian style.
Whitout a fixed scheme he represents a new world, searching spirituality
at which he much aims at in it.
