Henri Matisse nasce il 31 dicembre del 1869, sotto il segno del Capricorno. La sua vita scorre senza particolari avvenimenti sino a ventuno anni; dopo aver terminato gli studi liceali frequenta corsi di Giurisprudenza, quando per una malattia intestinale è costretto per circa un anno intero a riposo assoluto. Per gioco e per svagarsi inizia a dipingere, un'occupazione che lo prende a tal punto da modificare tutti i suoi progetti. Debilitato da un punto di vista fisico, Matisse non si perde assolutamente d'animo, e forte di un bel transito di Urano su Luna e Venere natali, inizia il suo percorso artistico. Luna e Venere in aspetto suggeriscono di per sé tendenze ed istintualità di tipo artistico, tra Sagittario e Acquario offrono una visione che si apre su spazi illimitati, alla ricerca e all'esplorazione; molta originalità, la serena volontà a scoprire un tipo di espressione che riesca a trascendere tutto quello che finora è stato fatto; la creazione in sé è la conseguenza della posizione della Luna stessa nella quinta casa, nel segno del Sagittario. Nella stessa casa troviamo parecchi altri pianeti, nell'ordine Saturno, il Sole e Mercurio; ben quattro pianeti sono più che una garanzia in termini di creatività, la presenza del Sole e della Luna danno una priorità fondamentale all'uomo Matisse, di potersi esprimere ampiamente e liberamente. Non era assolutamente un personaggio vistoso e ingombrante, almeno apparentemente, nonostante l'aspetto del Sole con Giove mantiene sempre un'aura di raccoglimento e distacco; a determinare questo atteggiamento è quel fremito destabilizzante rappresentato da Nettuno, che da Ariete e dalla nona casa tende a minare ogni certezza acquisita da Sole e Giove, a creare un ulteriore spinta verso la ricerca di nuovi orizzonti; oltre a ciò dobbiamo aggiungere un altro aspetto, quello tra Mercurio e Plutone, un immersione totale nelle profondità dell'animo, sicura, senza possibilità di passi falsi. "Il sentimento è nemico solo quando non si sa esprimerlo. E bisogna esprimerlo interamente. Se non si prova ad andare fino in fondo non si raggiungono che delle approssimazioni. Un artista è un esploratore". Il senso della forma e della struttura che Capricorno (Sole, Mercurio, Marte) e Toro (Giove, Plutone) rendono basilari vengono quindi rivoluzionati, scompare la prospettiva, il soggetto risulta appiattito sulla tela, spariscono confini lineari e quadrati e compaiono le curve e la sinuosità delle forme, che tanto caratterizzano l'arte di Matisse. Gli aspetti duri dei due segni di terra vengono sublimati in una circolarità mai chiusa, in un continuo andare e venire. Solo nel periodo della prima guerra mondiale la geometria acquista una parte importante nei suoi lavori, però Matisse non sarà mai un cubista; i quadri successivi, con la serie delle odalische, la sinuosità prende le forme di corpi voluttuosi e stupendi, suggerendoci quella gioia di vivere quasi edonistica ben rappresentata da Giove in Toro. A ulteriore conferma dell'importanza del sentimento, notiamo come anche Marte nel Capricorno venga positivamente distratto da Urano nel Cancro, rendendo molto agile e leggero il tratto sulla tela. L'ascendente in Leone conferma l'attitudine creativa della quinta casa, insieme a Luna in Sagittario e Nettuno in Ariete ci da la dimensione fauve, sottolinea l'enorme importanza del colore nelle sue opere; sono questi i tre elementi che caratterizzano maggiormente il pittore Matisse, che naturalmente non potrebbero essere così compiuti senza quella integrità d'animo del Matisse uomo.

Henri Matisse is born on december 31th 1869, under the sign of Capricorn. His life flows without particular events until the age of twenty-one; after finishing secondary studies he attends law courses, when because of an intestinal ill is compelled to absolute rest for nearly an entire year. He starts to paint for fun, an occupation he is involved in such as to modify all his projects. Physically weakened, Matisse does not lose heart at all, and strong of a good transit of Huranus on radical Moon and Venus starts his artistic path. Moon and Venus in aspects suggest by themselves a kind of artistic tendencies and istinctuality, between Sagitarius and Aquarius they offer a vision that opens on boundless spaces, on research and exploration; a lot of originality, serene will to find out a kind of expression that should manage to trascend all that has been made until then; the creation in itself is the consequency of the position of Moon herself in the fifth house, in the sign of Sagitarius. In the same house we find many other planets, in order Saturn, Sun and Mercury; four planets are properly more than a guarantee in terms of creativity, the presence of Sun and Moon give a fundamental priority to the man Matisse to express himself freely and widely. He was absolutely not a showy and bulky character, at least apparently, despite the aspect of Sun with Jupiter he keeps always a meditation and detaching aura; to determine this disposition is that destabilizing quiver represented by Neptune, who tends from Aries and the ninth house to mine every acquired certainty by Sun and Jupiter, to create a further push to search new horizons; besides we must add another aspect, the one between Mercury and Pluto, a total immersion in soul depth, certain, without possibility to fail. ”Feeling is enemy only when you are not able to express him. And you should express it completely. If you do not try to go deeper you will reach just approximations. An artist is an explorer”. The sense of form and structure that Capricorn (Sun, Mercury, Mars) and Taurus (Jupiter, Pluto) render basic, are totally revolutioned, perspective disappears, the subject results flatted on the canvas, linear bounds and squares disappear, curves and forms' sinuosity, that much characterize Matisse art, appear. Strong aspects of the two earth signs are exalted in a circularity never closed, in a continous come and go. Only in the First World War period geometry acquires an important share in his works, although Matisse will never be a cubist; next pictures, with odalisque series, sinuosity takes the form of sensual and gorgeous bodies, suggesting that quite edonistic joy of living well represented by Jupiter in Taurus. To further confirmation of the importance of feeling, we notice also as Mars in Capricorn is positively diverted by Huranus in Cancer, rendering very quick and light the stroke on the canvas. Leo Ascendant confirms the creative attitude of the fifth house, together with Moon in Sagittarius and Neptune in Aries gives us the fauve dimension, underlines the great importance of the colour in his works; these are the three elements that mostly feature Matisse painter, that naturally could not be so accomplished without that mind wellbeing of the man Matisse.
